Artist Christopher Cropper

In preparation for Wild Art Columbus (WAC), we talked with artist Christopher Cropper about his work, inspirations, goals, and about communicating hope through graffiti and street art.

Who are you?

I’m Christopher Cropper, a Hawaiian 39-year-old working artist.

What defines you as a creative?

My artwork defines me: it is best described as urban abstract expressionism.

How long have you been a part of the Columbus art scene?

I’ve been a part of the Columbus art scene for close to twenty years now.

How have you developed your career?

I’ve developed my career as an artist by consistently making art for over a decade through shows, murals, etc. I’ve been into art since I was a kid but started getting really serious about it in 2002 when I was 20 and discovered street art and graffiti for the first time after dropping out of art school.

What inspires you?

Graffiti, street art and everyday life inspire me.

I’ve noticed that in your work you use a lot of bright colors and human figures. What do you hope to communicate to the viewer through your work?

I hope to communicate the struggles of living in an often-harsh world and finding hope in my work.

What’s next for you?

What’s next is several upcoming art shows at Global gallery, Wanderlust Studio, the Vanderelli Room and One Line Coffee.

Join us on April 15, 6–9pm to view Chris’s work along with other artists at Wild Art Columbus (WAC)!

WAC will be presented online via a public Facebook group on April 15, 6–9pm — honoring our commitment to keeping our community safe. WAC is a celebration of our commitment to building an accessible art collection. Works from emerging to established local artists will all be offered for $100, with 50% of the sale will be paid to the artist and the other 50% going to support Wild Goose Creative’s mission to build a creative community at the intersection of art, risk and meaning. We’ll post all works for sale on the wall of the group.

This season’s Wild Art Columbus is presented by Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) and supported by Triad Architecture, CASTO and Paradise Garage.
